Lift Station Generator Replacement

An emergency generator at Seacoast Utility Authority (SUA) Lift Station 54 was reaching the end of its useful life.Under a continuing design-build services contract, SUA hired Globaltech to create engineering plans and replace the generator and its diesel fuel tank with new equipment of equal size.

Globaltech removed the large louver on the generator building and extracted the existing 250kW generator and its base-mounted 500-gallon diesel fuel tank through the opening using rollers and a large crane. The same method was used to install the new generator and base fuel tank.

The replacement unit included a battery charger, battery tray and batteries, exhaust piping, main breaker, and current control and monitoring features capable of interfacing with the existing SUA SCADA system. Globaltech also replaced three entry doors on the generator building with impact-resistant Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) doors.

Project Achievements / Benefits

  • The new generator exhausts through the roof of the building and connects to a new 316 SS silencer. It provides reliable standby power to Lift Station 54, with a reduced level of noise.
  • Project enhancements included an exterior locking fuel fill station so that refueling could occur without the need to enter the building.
