As a subconsultant, Globaltech provided process mechanical design for all pumping systems, as well as construction services and start-up services for Fort Pierce Utilities Authority's reverse osmosis plant.
The project consisted of a new water plant utilizing brackish water spiral wound reverse osmosis membranes to treat Floridan aquifer well water. With an initial plant capacity of 3 mgd of permeate, the plant is now expandable to 6 mgd of permeate with an additional 1.3 to 2.0 mgd of raw water potentially being by-passed. Raw water is supplied by submersible pumps in artesian wells controlled by telemetry.
Membrane pretreatment consisted of scale inhibitor addition, sulfuric acid feed addition, and 5-micron cartridge filtration. Permeate post treatment consisted of degasification of hydrogen sulfide, pH adjustment with sodium hydroxide, and a corrosion inhibitor addition. Concentrate is disposed of by deep injection well. Construction was completed in January 2003.
