Globaltech, Inc., under a design-build contract, was responsible for designing, permitting and constructing improvements to the reverse osmosis plant’s clearwells to meet the Ground Water Rule requirements at the Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department (PBCWUD) Water Treatment Plant No. 3 (WTP 3).
This project included structural modifications to two separate degassifier clearwells to force the treated water into a completely circuitous path to increase chlorine detention time, in compliance with the new FDEP Ground Water Rule requirements. Other work included construction of a concrete baffle wall to raise minimum water levels in one of the clearwells; installation of chlorine residual analyzers; a chlorine magnetic-flow-meter; sample pumps; relocation of chlorine, caustic and ammonia injection points and the associated piping; electrical and instrumentation; and structural reinforcing.
An important component of this project was frequent coordination with the Palm Beach County Health Department regarding the relative locations of the chemical injection points and the sample pumps.
